Friesacher Minardi 1:14.494 * - Note - * During the Friday Practice there was major tyre accidents with the Michelin tyres of which there was safety concerns of the tyres during the race, and after Saturday qualifying the Michelin tyre company requested that the tyres were not safe for the Grand Prix and asked for a change to track be done with regard to the safety of the drivers and the FIA and Track stewards said no to the track change on the grounds that becuase of the supplier had a defective product why should it effect other other racing teams from completing on level grounds. Of which Toyota, McLaren, BAR, Renault, Williams, RedBull and Sauber withdraw from the Grand Prix on the grounds of safety of the drivers.
