Cycle-Cars

As Voiturette racing progressed, so that the capacity of the cars increased as designers exploited the rules to the full. This left a lower end of the power range for the very small car.People built and owned these cars and yet there were no cars organized for them.Cycle car racing filled that gap. The Formula remained very much the same from the day the A.C.F.  announced the Formula until the class faded from the scene in the thirties. But right through to the seventies, classes in various forms of racing utilized the strange 1100 cc limit rather than the more obvious 1000 cc. Why was this limit chosen? No-one knows. France was the cradle of this class of racing and it is fitting that the only two races before the war for these cars were in that country. It had to start somewhere but the finish …… well there was no finish. The true descendant was Formula 3.
